Deloitte Best Managed Companies 2018

Acorn Life Celebrate Being the First Life Assurance Company to Win Back-to- Back Deloitte Best Managed Companies Awards

Acorn Life, a 100% Irish owned Life Assurance Company providing protection, pensions, savings and investment solutions to the Irish public, was recently announced as a second time recipient of the Deloitte Best Managed Companies (BMC) Award. The company, which has consistently demonstrated superior business performance was recognised at an awards gala dinner in Dublin on Thursday 15th March.

The Deloitte BMC Awards are in their 10th year and are lauded as one of the most prestigious awards in the country, recognising Irish companies operating at the highest levels of business performance. The Deloitte Best Managed designation is a symbol of Irish corporate success, and recognises companies that are focused on their core vision, create stakeholder value, excel in all areas of their business, and celebrate the contribution of the entire organisation. In total 137 companies were recognised as Best Managed Companies and have a combined turnover of over €12 billion. 26 of the 32 counties across the island of Ireland were represented by winning companies.

Speaking of their win Paddy Byrne, CEO, Acorn Life, “We are both proud and honoured to be the only life assurance company in Ireland to win this award. This achievement comes as a result of the tireless work of our staff and the people that make up our financial advisor network throughout the country. Day in day out, it’s these people that make our company what it is. To them, we would like to say a very heartfelt thank you. We would also like to thank our clients for their continued support – without whom we would not be the company we are today”.

Paddy continued, “At Acorn Life we believe that a business grows when its people grow. We have plans to grow further in 2018 and are actively looking to build our financial advisors base in our branch network nationwide. We are particularly focused on recruiting self-starters, preferably with a track-record in entrepreneurship or business development from outside the financial services industry. We provide an all-embracing support system to help these individuals build a financial services career and gain relevant professional qualifications”. Paddy concluded by focusing on Acorn Life’s financials, “From humble beginnings over 28 years ago, Acorn Life has grown into a company with over 300 staff and financial advisors,  assets under management of €764 million at the end of 2017 and premium income of €107 million during the year. Our success is built on providing financial advice through long term relationships in local communities”.

Deloitte Partner, Anya Cummins said: “2018 marks the 10th year of the Deloitte Best Managed Companies Awards programme, which has grown from 25 companies in year 1 to 137 this year. The programme represents companies from different industries with many industry-specific challenges but also common characteristics such as adaptability, innovation and ambition. Their stories are the stories of Irish business this past decade, and they are stories of resilience, recovery and confidence.”

The Deloitte BMC programme is entering its 10th year in Ireland. The Deloitte Best Managed Companies programme, in association with Bank of Ireland, promotes and recognises excellence in Irish/Northern Irish owned and managed companies. It is the only awards scheme on the island of Ireland that considers a business’ performance from every perspective. Entrants to the programme will compete for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates the calibre of their management abilities and practices. This initiative is modelled on Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies programme, which has been successfully run by Deloitte in Canada since 1993.
