Acorn Life Celebrate Being the First Life Assurance Company to Win Prestigious Deloitte Best Managed Companies Award
Irish-owned & operated, the Acorn Life group plans to continue expansion during 2017
Acorn Life, a 100% Irish owned Life Assurance Company providing protection, pensions, savings and investment solutions to the Irish public, was recently announced as the first Life Assurance Company in Ireland to be awarded the Deloitte Best Managed Companies (BMC) Award. Company representatives were presented with the award at a ceremony in The Convention Centre, Dublin on Friday 3rd March. The awards were attended by over 900 people from the Irish business community. IDA Ireland Chairman Frank Ryan, chair of the independent judging panel, presented the awards on the night.
The Deloitte BMC Awards are in their 9th year and are lauded as one of the most prestigious awards in the country, recognising Irish companies operating at the highest levels of business performance. Sixteen companies from around Ireland were awarded “Best Managed” status for the first time this year, following a detailed qualification and judging process. This took into consideration the complete performance of the business, looking beyond the finances at criteria such as operational excellence, strategy and human resource processes. The Deloitte Best Managed designation is a symbol of Irish corporate success, and recognises companies that are focused on their core vision, create stakeholder value, excel in all areas of their business, and celebrate the contribution of the entire organisation.
Speaking of their win Paddy Byrne, CEO, Acorn Life, “We are both proud and honoured to be the first life assurance company in Ireland to win this award. This achievement, without doubt, comes as a result of the tireless work of our staff and the people that make up our financial advisor network throughout the country. Day in day out, it’s these people that make our company what it is. To them, we would like to say a very heartfelt thank you. We would also like to thank our clients for their continued support – without whom we would not be the company we are today”.
Paddy continued, “At Acorn Life we believe that a business grows when its people grow. We have plans to grow further in 2017 and are actively looking to add 100 financial advisors to our branch network nationwide. We are particularly focused on recruiting self-starters, preferably with a track-record in entrepreneurship or business development from outside the financial services industry. We provide an all-embracing support system to help these individuals build a financial services career and gain relevant professional qualifications”.
Paddy concluded by focusing on Acorn Life’s financials, “From humble beginnings over 27 years ago, Acorn Life has grown into a company with over 300 staff and financial advisors, assets under management of €709 million at the end of 2016 and premium income of €123 million during the year. Our success is built on providing financial advice through long term relationships in local communities”.
Managing Partner of Deloitte and judging panel member, Brendan Jennings commented: “Congratulations to all the 2017 winners. All the companies here tonight are at the end of a long process of evaluation, which makes their Best Managed designation even more rewarding and valuable as a marketing tool for their business. It is clear that these companies make an invaluable contribution to the Irish economy - employing 60,000 people and generating turnover of €11bn.”
Sasha Wiggins, CEO of Barclays Bank Ireland, added: “We believe that great people make the best companies. Behind this year’s winning companies are 60,000 people who combined have demonstrated absolute commitment to business excellence. The Barclays team is delighted to have had the opportunity to support this diverse range of inspiring companies in the development of their unique strategies and we wish them continued success in the future.”
